3rd ANNUAL CRUISE-IN to THE SIDEKICK CAFE DINER
4682 Hudson Rd., Intersection of M34 and M99
Osseo, MI
Sunday, September 11, 2011 1:00 PM until ?
Who says summer's over after Labor Day? Let's keep summer and the summer-time fun going on! Summertime means drive-that-VW time and the MVVC September event will be a driving event meant to get the oil flowing in your vintage Volkswagen. The Sidekick Cafe Diner, located at 4682 Hudson Rd. (at the intersection of routes M99 and M34) in Osseo, MI (near Hillsdale, just beyond Michigan's Irish Hills region), has invited the MVVC back again to cruise on in for a day of food, fun and VW fellowship. Last year's Cruise-In was such a success, with participation from not only the MVVC, but other VW clubs as well (about 50 VWs and in excess of 70 people!), and lots of positive buzz (even from the locals!), the owners and staff of the Sidekick are eager to have us back!
The 50's/60's-themed diner offers great diner food as well as ice cream and this cruise-in makes a great way to give your VW some more exercise for the season, tour the southern Michigan countryside and hang out with other vintage VW enthusiasts. As we did for the last two Sidekick Cruise-Ins, we're inviting members of other vintage VW clubs in the region to join the cruise-in, so here's a chance to check out some of other VWs and meet 'n' mingle with Volks folks from these clubs.
The Sidekick will be setting up a huge tent outside for us Cruisers, and offering a special menu featuring your choice of ribs, brats, or chicken along with German potato salad and German chocolate cake for dessert. Alternatively, you may also order off their menu and ice cream is always available. Apart from the food, VWs of every description and the usual Volks folks fellowship, expect a trivia contest (testing your VW knowledge), a 50/50 raffle to benefit St. Anthony's Free Clinic of Hillsdale, dash plaques and other give-aways, plus some surprises in store!
The cruise-in at the Sidekick will start at 1:00 PM on Sunday, September 11. For those wishing to caravan out to the diner from the Detroit metro area, we will meet at the former Karmann USA in Plymouth (now Webasto Roof Systems) beginning at 10:00 AM, in the parking lot where the MVVC 2009 Festival was held (located on Pilot Drive, just south off of 5 Mile Rd., between Sheldon and Beck Roads, just north of M-14). The caravan will hit the road no later than 10:40 AM and proceed through Ypsilanti to route US 12 (Michigan Ave.). We'll follow US 12 west through the Irish Hills to US 127, where we'll head south to Hudson, MI. At Hudson, we'll turn west onto M 34 and make our way to the Sidekick. We'll be travelling essentially two-lane highways with scenic, casual driving at moderate speeds. Think of it as a late summer warm-up for the Color Tour! The trip from Karmann USA in Plymouth will be approximately 80 miles and will take an estimated 2 hours driving time.
Anyone wishing to join the caravan while en route should contact Tom Siligato (contact details below) to identify where they would like to join in. You will be contacted to coordinate the rendezvous with the caravan.
So the Sidekick can prepare for the cruise-in, they'll need a car/person count. IF YOU WILL BE PARTICIPATING, PLEASE RSVP TO TOM SILIGATO BY E-MAIL AT events@mvvc.net OR PHONE AT 248-489-4136 (LEAVE MESSAGE WITH CALL-BACK NUMBER) BY TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6 AND INCLUDE THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN YOUR PARTY.
Hope to be cruisin' out to the Sidekick with you on Sunday, September 11! In the meantime, check out the Sidekick Cafe Diner on Facebook!
